ITEM BACKGROUND: Gayle Glover, of the Florida Department of Health, Monroe County,
whose grant focuses on Multigenerational parks, would like to present signage for Monroe County's
Clarence S. Higgs Memorial Beach Park in recognition of the Park being designated as a
multigenerational park.

at botanical garden

Tropical Forest and Botanical
Garden on Saturday. March 17,
from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the
Garden Chapel on College Road.
Visitors can come for the
rnonthly native plant sale and stay
for the talk. The cost is $5, free
for members and students; $5 for
others.

years. She has dual degrees in biol-
ogy and marine biolop and has

of Florida, the U.S. Arrny Corps of

Health Department,
recognized two city parks
The Florida Department of
Health recently presented the city
of Key 1%lest %vith signage proclaim-
ing tivic city parks as multigener-
ational. parks. Nelson English and
Truman lVaterfro rit Park provide an
array of options for all ages of users.
The signs ivere presented during a
recent City Conimission meeting.
"You are the first in the coun-
ty to provide them," said the
Health Department's Gayle Glover.
"They're very beneficial, especialiv
to those who have aged out of tra-
ditional parks."
Nelson English Park was recently
revamped with options that appeal
to all age groups. Covered palii-
ions, playground equipment, bas-
ketball courts, and rehydration sta-
tions are, features that make niulti-
generational parks an asset to their
neighborhoods.
The new signs w%rill be featured at
the entrance of the parks.

set for March 12 at Ci4y Hall
A simple instructional presentation
vdil take place on - Monday, March 12,
from noon to I p.m., at the Key Hest
City Hall, 1300 Thlte St. The lunchtime
event is designed to assist contractors
and homeov% in fulfilling their BP AS
1,000-gallon rainwater requirements
(esp. BRAS Permit Holders Years 1-3).
It includes designing and calculating
wholesale costs of all of the parts needed
for a rainwater system. Bring all informa-
tion froin your oxNrn project plus some-
thing to write on and a simple calculator
(or ce.11phone on inute).
The presentations will focus on how
to fulfill the requirements of Key lVest's
green Building Permit allocation System
(BRAS) 1,000-gallon rainwater collection
for new and restored buildings. Indixridtied
assistance will be available.. Other topics
i%ill include how to restore an existing
cistern or convert a septic lank.
