WHEREAS, Stuart G. Newman was born in Chicago, Ill., April 22, 1922; and moved to SOLItIl
Florida in 1925,
WHEREAS, Stuart G. Newman studied at the University of IIonda and joined the United
States Army Air Corps reserve unit on Oct. 10, 1942,
WHEREAS, Stuart G. Newman was called to active service Feb. 15, 1943, and was transferred
to England Sept. 12, 1944, as Lt. Stuart Newman serving as a navigator/bombardier aboard a B -17;
WHEREAS, Lt. Stuart G. Newman flew 35 missions, including the 20th where his aircraft was
shot down over Belgium and he and other crewmembers survived the crash
WHEREAS, after his 35 missions, Lt. Stuart G. Newman returned to South Florida and was a
public information officer for the U.S. Air Force, which succeeded the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served
as public information officer at the Air Force Rehabilitation Center in a Coral Gables, Florida, building
now known as the Biltmore Hotel from May 1945 to December 1945;
WHEREAS, after his Army Air Corps/AirForce service, Stuart G. Newman opened his
public relations practice on Miami Beach in January 1946;
WHEREAS, during his public relations career, Stuart G. Newman has represented a number
of Monroe County-oriented businesses and political leaders including the late Marathon Shores developer
Phil Sadowski and Congressman Dante Fascell;
WHEREAS, Stuart G. Newman and the firm, now known as NewmanPR which also includes his
son Andy Newman, have represented Monroe County generic tourism public relations programs through
the Monroe County Advertising Commission and the Monroe County Tourist Development Council since
Oct. 1, 1980, for more than 38 consecutive years;
WHEREAS, Stuart G. Newman and the firm have aided efforts to create awareness of the
Florida Keys as a world-class tourism destination;
WHEREAS, Stuart G. Newman, accompanied by Andy Newman, is flying on an "Honor Flight"
trip to Washington, D.C., on Oct. 27, 2018, along with other veterans of World War 11, the Korean War,
Vietnam War and Mideast conflicts;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THF BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OFMONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA:
I. The board wishes to honor U, Stuart G. Newrnan with this resolution and to proclaim Oct,
. 1 7,2018,as "I.t. StUartG. Ne%vnian Day in the fabulous Florida Keys.
2. The Board further honors other veterans Participating in the flight and pays homage to all
veterans who have protected the freedom ofthe United States of Arnerica.
