ITEM BACKGROUND: Chapter 64E- 2.004, Florida Administrative Code, requires each licensed emergency medical services provider to acquire the services of a physician to provide medical direction to the provider. Monroe County Fire Rescue has contracted with the current medical director since 1987. The last time these services were put out to bid was 1999 through an RFQ. PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: On September 16, 2009 the BOCC approved the final renewal agreement with Professional Emergency Services effective from October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2011. The base cost of the current contract is $5,862.91 per service segment per year. Currently there are 11 service segments computing at $64,492.00 annually to cover ground ambulance and an additional $30,000.00 to cover air ambulance medical direction.
