Revised 7/09
Cliff Nelson has been employed with Monroe County Social Services as a Driver within our
Transportation Department since December 4, 2000. He has been a loyal asset to our Para -
Transit program for almost 15 years. Cliff's humor with, and dedication to, the senior citizens,
the disabled, and the transportation disadvantaged that he transports everyday shows his caring
and giving nature.
Cliff often goes above and beyond his regular duties and job description as a driver. Recently,
he helped a disabled veteran obtain replacement batteries for his electric wheelchair, and then
installed them himself. Another time, Cliff found one of his elderly riders sitting outside a
grocery store, crying. Cliff took the time to turn around, sit down with the man, and find out
what was wrong. He calmed the gentleman down, reached out to someone who could come
help the man in need, and reported the incident to Social Services so that we could follow up on
the situation to ensure that the gentleman was safe.
Cliff regularly assists in other areas of the county when drivers call in sick or are out on
vacation. If we are short-handed, we can call Cliff on short notice and ask for his assistance and
know that he will not be upset about the schedule changes. Sometimes, that flexibility and
teamwork is all we need to bring a smile to our face on an otherwise difficult day.
Cliff is an asset to Monroe County, Social Services, and to our citizens who ride the para-transit
vehicles, and we are so proud to recognize him for the Fourth Quarter Award.
