Florida Transportation Plan -• Strategic Intermodal System
This year, the Florida Department of Transportation celebrates its
Centennial 100 year anniversary. The State Road Department was created on
FDOT June 2, 1915, by the Florida Legislature and in 1969, the state agency
was renamed. It is fitting that with this celebration, the Department
s*Zo15 • will be preparing revised Florida Transportation and Strategic
Intermodal System Plans.
The Florida Transportation Plan (FTP) is the state's long range transportation plan. The FTP
establishes the policy framework for allocating state and federal transportation funds. In addition,
the FTP identifies the roles and responsibilities of all partners for implementing this plan.
The Strategic Intermodal System (SIS) comprises `ti. ;` . -
the state's largest and most strategic transportation — -` "
facilities, including major air, space, water, rail, and111111
highway facilities. The SIS facilities are the primary 3
means for moving people and freight between 1 :y '
Florida's diverse regions, as well as between Florida = �� r4
and other states and nations. The SIS is Florida's • ".h...- `�highest statewide priority for transportation capacity Ili%
improvements.

How To Get Involved
The Florida Department of Transportation held five regional forums which provided opportunity for
Floridians to offer their thoughts about the state's transportation system of the future and to suggest
bold ideas to achieve this future. These free public forums were held at the following locations:
