ITEM BACKGROUND: lPhones and IPads which have been turned in (either through replacement with a new model or because they are broken)have been accumulating because there is not an easy, automated way to remove the data off of the devices. AT&T now offers a program whereby they will accept old phones and tablets and securely erase the data on them. Additionally, once the data has been erased, they will review the equipment for an opportunity to refurbish it and resell it. If they determine there is still value in the equipment, AT&T will credit our cellular bill by that amount. We are asking for your permission to utilize this program for our existing inventory of old cellular equipment— as well as permission to utilize it on an ongoing fashion so that we don't build up another significant inventory. In accordance with the County's purchasing policy and F.S. 274.06, in consideration of the best interest of the County and the most efficient and cost-effective means of disposal, it is recommended that the Board approve this disposal method for this surplus equipment which is valued at less than $5,000. The cell phones cannot be offer for sale until such information is cleared which would be at a cost to the County. There are currently no local vendors with the skillset, certifications and interest to perform this activity.
