Grant amount will be for $1,000,000 with a 50% match. ITEM BACKGROUND: The Division of Historic Resources (DHR) is providing a Special Category Grant-in-Aid assistance program to help preserve historic structures. The entire Monroe County Historic Courthouse exterior brick is in need of repair or replacement. The fired brick face has completely decomposed off the structure. Staff recommends submission of a DHR application for a project to remove the brick face, rotate the brick with the good fired surface facing out, and repoint the brick which will provide an appropriate weather barrier. The project will be completed over multiple years. This grant application will help fund the first phase of work which would begin October 2021 or later. The DHR Special Category grant provides financial assistance to begin brick restoration at the historic county courthouse. The DHR application submission period is expected to be May 1, 2019 through June 15, 2019. The State DHR requires the County to pass a Resolution that affirms the County's ability to provide matching funds. The County's 50% match would be $500,000, with the grant-funding period to be between July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2022. The proposed Resolution is attached for approval.
