Item U4 U.4 G BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS County of Monroe Mayor Sylvia Murphy,District 5 The Florida Keys l'U Mayor Pro Tern Danny Kolhage,District 1 pw° Michelle Coldiron,District 2 Heather Carruthers,District 3 David Rice,District 4 County Commission Meeting May 22, 2019 Agenda Item Number: U.4 Agenda Item Summary #5612 BULK ITEM: Yes DEPARTMENT: Project Management TIME APPROXIMATE: STAFF CONTACT: Breanne Erickson (305) 292-4427 n/a AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval of five (5) Resolutions providing support for the National Park Service, Division of Historic Resources (DHR) for the submission of five (5) grant applications for supplementary funding of design and repair to historic properties owned by Monroe County that were damaged in Hurricane Irma. Each application has a maximum of $500,000 in grant funding with no ($0) County match. ITEM BACKGROUND: The National Park Service grant program (via DHR processes) is providing grant funding for historic buildings needing repair from Hurricane Irma. Project Management proposes submitting five (5) DHR grant applications for various repair projects. The properties Project Management proposes submitting grant applications for include: the Key West Lighthouse, East Martello Tower, West Martello Tower, the Historic Monroe County Courthouse and the Monroe County Historic Jail at Jackson Square. The National Parks grant provides an opportunity to submit applications for a grant that could provide the County with supplementary funding for the design and construction of building restoration for multiple County-owned properties. Monroe County would not be required to provide any matching funds for this project. Each application has a maximum of$500,000 in grant funding possible. Project Management was under the impression that only one (1) application per government entity could be submitted per grant cycle, however DHR has stated that due to the special grant cycle for hurricane damaged properties, entities may submit multiple applications. PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: April 17, 2019 — BOCC approved a resolution in support of submission of a DHR grant application for the buildings damaged by Hurricane Irma on Pigeon Key.
