ITEM BACKGROUND: This item provides authorization for the District 4 Commissioner's Executive Assistant to expend and authorize repairs for the electronic radar signs and other equipment up to $2,500 located within the Duck Key Security District. The Duck Key Security District Advisory Board recommended for the authorization and spending cap to be designated to the Advisory Board Chair at their July 22, 2019 meeting. But in order to ensure proper internal oversight of expenditures for the Duck Key Security District, it is staff s recommendation that this authority be delegated to a County staff person. The District 4 Executive Assistant serves as a liaison to this advisory board. This pre-authorization will expedite maintenance services and repairs as necessary for the electronic radar signs or other security equipment and allow for service calls to be made efficiently and avoid delay in repairs. Any repairs/replacement above this cap would require approval of the advisory board and BOCC for the additional expenditure. With regard to the electronic radar signs, after the 1-year warranty expires on each unit, the ongoing maintenance service and/or repairs must be made by local vendors. The equipment manufacturer is located in Canada and they can provide telephonic assistance with a sign vendor as needed. PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: BOCC approved the purchase of the radar signs installed on Duck Key residential roads through expenditure of the Duck Key Security Taxing District funds.
