WATER CONSERVATION MONTH
APRIL 2011
WHEREAS
, water is a basic and essential need of every living creature; and
WHEREAS
, clean, safe, sustainable water resources and supplies are now and have
historically been a defining factor in the lives of Monroe County residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS
, drought, water shortages, development and population growth, serve as reminders
WHEREAS
, the State of Florida has for several years declared April as Water Conservation
Month; and
WHEREAS
, every business, industry, school, citizen and visitor can make a difference when it
comes to saving water; and
WHEREAS
, every business, industry, school, citizen and visitor can help save water by using
simple methods to conserve water, for example, the use of native plants and xeriscaping, not running
the water needlessly, harvesting rainwater, and running dishwashers and clothes washers only when
fully loaded; and
WHEREAS
, the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County has always encouraged
and supported water conservation.
NOW, THEREFORE
, I, Heather Carruthers, serving as Mayor of Monroe County, Florida, do
hereby proclaim April 1st through April 30th, 2011 as
WATER CONSERVATION MONTH
and encourage all residents and visitors to observe this month with appropriate personal actions,
programs, ceremonies, and activities.
