Architecture, Inc. for the Marathon Courthouse Renovation project.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
The Marathon Courthouse is ready to begin its much needed renovation.
MBI/K2M Architecture Inc. was awarded the Agreement for Professional Services for the renovation

on April 16, 2008. The initial fee of $28,000.00 was based on the estimated construction cost of
$350,000.00. The contract allowed for an adjustment either upward or downward when the actual
construction cost was known. The actual construction cost for the renovation of the Marathon
Courthouse is $835,775.00 with equals a fee of $66,862.00.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
On May 19, 2004, the BOCC approved an Annual
Contract for Architectural Services to MBI/K2M Architecture, Inc. On May 18 2005, May 16, 2006,
and April 18, 2007 the BOCC approved renewals of the Annual Contract. On April 16, 2008 the
BOCC approved an Agreement for Professional Services for the renovations of the Marathon
Courthouse exercising the Annual Contract. On June 18, 2008 the BOCC extended the Annual
Contract to finalize pending projects, which included the Marathon Courthouse renovations. On
February 18, 2009 a First Amendment to the Agreement for the Marathon Courthouse renovations was
approved to retain a Civil Engineering consultant to prepare storm water calculation/analysis and
sanitary sewer calculation/analysis.
CONTRACT/AGREEMENT CHANGES:
Increase the Architectural/Engineering fee from
$28,000.00 to $66,862.00, based on the construction cost increase from the estimated $350,000.00 to
$835,775.00.
