The contractor submitted RFI 08 suggesting a 50 ft linear gravity wall due to significant erosion creating an
unsafefunstable drop off condition of approximately 35 inches at the ramp landing. (refer to attachments). On
September 11, 2019, staff met on site with the Engineer of Record (Metric Subconsultant ASA), Construction
Engineering and Inspection (CEI-WSP, USA, Inc), Contractor(AEB)and FDOT environmental consultant(Terramar)
to determine an appropriate cost effective solution that would not require an additional environmental permitting
process or be as costly as a gravty wall. It was determined that a rubble rip rap system would be an acceptable
solution. AEB has provided negotiated fine item pricing for these items(refer to attachment for cost breakdown)and
has determined that no additional time is necessary to complete this additional scope of work since it can be
accomplished concurrent o other ttasks. The CE PI concurs wit

Submitted By: Date: 2/14/19 Dwg/Spec No./Revision/Detail/Sect.No.
Rigoberto Tirado
Subject: Erosion at approach to ramp
Problem&suggested solution:
The approach area to the ramp presents significant erosion (see pictures attached).
We propose the construction of 50 lineal ft of gravity wall as per FDOT Standard Index No. 520, and a 10
ft approach slab. The wall would extend from pier 23 through the end of the ramp plus 40 ft following
the coastline.
Engineering Dept. Review
Solution:
Instead of Gravity Wall, a Rubble Riprap System is the approved solution; please see
attached detail & notes.
