AGENDA ITEM WORDING:
Approve fee resolution amendment creating ability for permit applicants to reimburse County for after-
hours inspections if County Inspectors are available and can fulfill request.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
Occasionally the Building Department receives requests from permit applicants to conduct building
inspections after normal business hours, including weekends. Typically, these requests involve projects
that work throughout the weekend/after hours and would benefit from County Inspectors being
available. The Contractors prefer to use County Inspectors in lieu of Private Providers, as they are more
familiar with Staff. In such cases, the permit applicants are willing to pay increased fees to cover
additional costs incurred by the County to authorize staff to work on an overtime basis in order to
conduct the required inspections, however, the current fee schedule has no mechanism to charge an
increased or premium rate to accommodate these types of requests.

9 BUILDING DEPARTMENT FEE SCHEDULE; ADDING FEES IN
10 SECTION 1 (K) (17) FOR CONDUCTING BUILDING
11 INSPECTIONS OUTSIDE OF NORMAL WORKING HOURS,

15 WHEREAS, the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners wishes to provide the
16 citizens of the County with the best possible service in the most cost effective and reasonable manner,
17 and
is
19 WHEREAS,the Board finds that it is in the best interests of the public to charge the true cost
20 for such services, thereby placing the burden of such costs directly upon those parties deriving the
21 benefit from such services;and
22
23 WHEREAS, the updated fee schedule prepared by the Growth Management Director for
24 providing these services includes the estimated direct costs and reasonable indirect costs of services;
25 and does reflect the true cost of providing the services to the person(s) requesting the Building
26 Department services;and

28 WHEREAS, the Board concurs with the conclusions and findings of the Growth
29 Management Director,
