CMU walls observed being prepared for Vulkem 801 membrane. Contractor is grinding and grouting block and poured concrete to remove irregularities. Wall preparation observed is acceptable for Vulkem 801 application, subject to product application instructions and recommendations dated 9-28-06(attached). Repairs should be tested for sound bonding. Any material not solidly bonded should be repaired. Fasteners for stone must be reviewed for waterproofing detailing. It is Tremco's best recommendation that field adhesion testing should be conducted throughout the project. Field adhesion testing serves to confirm laboratory test results and the effectiveness and consistency of application methods. Tremco can not be held responsible for material differences, substitutions, or day-to-day variations in the finishing process which may alter these recommendations/results. Dear Mr. Chandler: The purpose of this letter is to confirm our conversation to provide you with the Tremco recommended and warrantable system for the application of a membrane over the CMU and concrete structure referenced above. The recommended product is the Vulkem 801. This product is a high build elastomeric membrane coating that has tenacious adhesion to concrete substrates that will provide excellent protection against water/vapor/moisture penetration. The Vulkem 801 is compatible with is compatible with the Tremco urethane or silicone sealants where contact may be encountered. The Vulkem 801 is non-staining to porous substrates and compatible with the stainless steel fasteners that are to be used for the brick and stone facade. The basic application of the Vulkem 801 is a one coat 45-50 mil wet roller application installed after the fasteners for the fagade have been installed. This will provide a 40 mil +L dry film membrane application. The 40 mil application is more than sufficient application to provide both water and air intrusion barrier. If the Vulkem 801 is installed prior to the fasteners then each fastener will need to be sealed with Vulkem 116 sealant as it is installed. A"parge coat"should not be required. Due to weather conditions a primer or thin prime coat of Vulkem 801 may be required to prevent'pinholes"or out gassing of the membrane during applications. The Vulkem 801 can be left exposed for extended periods allowing for the completion of the fagade. The applicator can complete the Vulkem 801 application out ahead of the stone/brick contractor providing potential time and cost savings. The substrates are to be clean and free of all contaminates including form release, curing compounds, slag etc. The concrete supplement is a good guide for surface preparation. All CMU is to be solid grouted in place with flush grouted joints. A site visit can be made and is recommended. Sample installations of the fasteners, any penetrations and other conditions that are in contact or penetrating the walls are recommended to be in place prior to the site visit. Window/door component details or mple installations should also be in place for review. Site reviews at start up and r during and after applications are also recommended for compliance to the manufacturer's recommendations.
