IM 10m 20 YEARS OF SERVICE Lieutenant David Zalanka began his service with Monroe County on April 25, 1:994 as a Paramedic. Prior to: this he had previously been employed as a paramedic and a firefighter with several other agencies in South Florida. In 1998 Lieut. Zalanka, being a State certified firefighter, took on the responsibilities as a Firefighter Paramedic for Monroe County Fire Rescue (MCFR). Lieut. Zalanka became a CPR Instructor, a Basic Trauma Life Support Instructor, and an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor. He has also taught numerous classes for Monroe County employees, as well as, citizen organizations throughout Monroe County. He has served in the capacity of Air Evacuation Coordinator for Special Medical Needs patients during hurricane threat evacuations. He also has served as a Flight Medic for Trauma Star. He is currently serving as the MCFR liaison with the Turkey Point Radiological disaster and training group. In June of 2007 he was promoted to Lieutenant with Monroe County Fire Rescue. He is serving in that capacity presently at Fire Rescue Station 17 in Conch Key. Lieut. Zalanka's personnel file is overflowing with numerous accolades, awards, and certificates of continuing training. Lieut. Zalanka has been and continues to be a valuable asset to Monroe County Fire Rescue and this community. We are proud to honor him with this length of service award.
