AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval of resolution establishing the revised rules for use of the
skate parks at Key Largo Community Park and Big Pine Key Park.
ITEM BACKGROUND: Following complaints from skateboarders and review of the requirements
in established in other skate-friendly community's staff revised the rules for use of the skate parks.
The revised rules were presented to the board and the board approved the revision of the skate park
rules at the September 17,2014 meeting. Having approved the revised rules without any changes staff
has now moved forward with the presentation of the resolution,required under Monroe County Code,
in order to establish the revised rules.

RESOLUTION NO. -2014
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY,
FLORIDA, RATIFYING RULES AND REGULATIONS
FOR THE SKATE PARK AT KEY LARGO
COMMUNITY PARK AND BIG PINE KEY PARK
WHEREAS, the county has a Skate Park at the Key Largo Community Park and the
Big Pine Key Park; and
WHEREAS, staff updated the rules and regulations governing the Skate Parks; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to section 18-27(n)(1) and 18-27(n)(2) rules regulating the use of
the skate park are established by resolution of the board of county commissioners; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA that the Board hereby ratifies the following rules and
regulations for the Skate Parks located in Monroe County:
1. All persons entering the skate park MUST have a signed and notarized
waiver on file, no exceptions. Children under the age of 18 years old must
have a parent or guardian sign the waiver. Children 10 and under must be
accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
2. All skaters must check in for entry into the skate park. Unlawful entry into
the facility will result in a trespassing citation and suspension from the
facility.
3. The skate park is used by inexperienced and experienced skaters. Helmets
are required. (Florida Statute 316.0085) by all participants at all times while
they are on the skating surface.
4. Only skateboards and inline skates are permitted. Bicycles of any type, rip
sticks, scooters, motorized skateboards and rollerskates are not allowed.
5. Shirts and shoes are required at all times.
6. Cursing, swearing, use of foul or inappropriate language will not be
tolerated.

7. Monroe County does not assume responsibility for injuries. Use of the
facility is at your own risk. Serious injury may occur from colliding with
other riders, falling on the concrete surface, and from flying objects. In the
event of an emergency or injury, all skaters must discontinue skating until
further directed by Monroe County or its representatives.
8. The following are not permitted in the skating area:
• Smoking Weapons of any kind
• smokeless tobacco Alcohol-possession consumption
• Drug use/possession Food and drinks
• Glass containers Personal amplified music
• Gum Skate Wax
• Pets
9. Monroe County and its representatives reserve the right to change the hours of
operation as necessary and to close the park due to inclement weather or special
events.
10. Inappropriate behavior such as horseplay or fighting will not be tolerated.
Anyone exhibiting reckless behavior will be asked to leave the facility.
11. No refunds. Rain checks will be given only within the first hour of participation.
