Dear Mayor Murphy,
I was recently contacted by Key Largo Lyons club member Chris Saute, as were
you and Doman Gastesi,to request my support for a Gun Buy Back program in Monroe
County. I stated to Mr. Saute that I would match up to $2,500.00 given that the BOCC
will support and agree to the introduction of the above stated program as well,Although
I am not certain how effective this endeavor could be in our County, I nevertheless fully
support any effort to curtail the illegal trafficking of weapons.
Sincerely,
Rick Ramsay
Sheriff of Monroe County

Re: Key Largo Lions Club, Gun Buy Back Program
Dear Mayor Murphy,
The Key Largo Lions Club would like to offer aii annual Gun Buy Back Program. This is
where we offer a gun -unnesty day so residents can turn in their guns and ammo in
excliange for gift cards.
While we know this is not a high crime area, we feel it is still a good way to remove
unwanted guns.
I have spoken to Sheriff Rick.Ramsey and he has agreed to match any funds the BOCC
offers up to $2,500.00. We would ask that the BOCC donate $2,500.00 also.
We will be using this money to advertise the turn in date and purchase gift cards to give
out.
We already have volunteers from a local gun shop that will check all weapons and secure
them. We also have local law enforcement officers to check each weapon's serial number
to verify that they are legal.
Once it is determined that the weapon is safe and legal,we will then offer them a gift
card to a local store. We intend to offer Winn Dixie and Public gift cards,
I I he value of each gun will be determined after it is examined.
Any fund not used will be returned to each agency.
If this is a success,we would like to do this each year.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Lion President
Chris Sante
