AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval of a resolution emphasizing the importance of the 2020
U.S. Census.
ITEM BACKGROUND: The U.S. Census Bureau is required by Article I, Section 2 of the U.S.
Constitution to conduct an accurate count of the population every ten years. The Census data serves,
in part, as the basis for the distribution of federal funds to states and local governments.
Census data is used to determine how many seats a state will have in the U.S. House of
Representatives and is used in the redistricting of state legislatures, county commissions, city
commissions, and school boards. The decennial census requires collaboration and partnership in
order to achieve a complete and accurate count.
The U.S. Census Bureau and the State of Florida is facing several challenges with the 2020 Census,
including communicating in a Coronavirus environment, and is asking for support from local
governments and community organizations.
The deadline for completion of the Census is October 31st and can be completed by the using
https:Hmy202Ocensus.gov.
