Resolution 003-1960 a ,awn—4- a RESOLUTION NO. 3-1960 A RESOLUTION DECLARING IT TO BE NECESSARY TO ERECT A JAIL SUB-STATION AT MARATHON, MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, AN ADDITION TO THE. JAIL SUB-STATION AT PLANTATION KEY, MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND ADDITIONS TO THE MONROE COUNTY JAIL, KEY WEST, MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND LEVY A TAX THEREFOR. WHEREAS, under the provisions of Sections135.01. and 135. 02, Florida Statutes Annotated, the Board of County Commissioners is authorized to erect a Jail and additions thereto and to levy a building tax therefor not exceeding five (5) mills per annum for not more than fifteen (15) consecutive years, pro- vided a hearing on the question of erecting such Jail and/or additions is held as therein provided for, and WHEREAS, pursuant to said Statute, notice has been published in The Key West Citizen that a public hearing would be held at this meeting for the purpose of discussing, hearing any objections and taking action on the construc- tion of a Jail Sub-Station at Marathon, Monroe County, Florida, an Addition to the Jail Sub-Station at Plantation Key, Monroe County, Florida, and Additions to the Monroe County Jail, Key West, Monroe County, Florida, and WHEREAS, at this meeting all persons desiring to be heard have been heard, and the foregoing question has been thoroughly discussed and it has been determined by the Board of County Commissioners to be necessary and to the best interest of the County to erect a Sail Sub-Station at Marathon, Monroe County, Florida, an Addition to the Jail Sub-Station at Plantation Key, Monroe County, Florida, and Additions to the Monroe County Jail, Key West, Monroe County, Florida, and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners has previously levied building taxes not to exceed five (5) mills on the dollar, and WHEREAS, said previously levied building taxes have never exceeded five (5) mills and at the present time only .75 of a mill is required to be levied for building purposes and the estimated cost of erecting such Jail Sub-Station at Marathon, Monroe County, Florida, an Addition to the Jail Sub-Station at 4.. . `r Plantation Key, Monroe County, Florida, and Additions to the Monroe County Jail, Key West, Monroe County, Florida, will not increase the necessary levy of the building tax to exceed five (5) mills on the dollar, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: (1) That it is necessary to construct a Jail Sub-Station at Marathon, Monroe County, Florida, an Addition to the Jail Sub-Station at Plantation Key, Monroe County, Florida, and Additions to the Monroe County Jail, Key West, Monroe County, Florida, owned by said County. (2) That for the purpose of paying the cost of construction of such Jail Sub-Station at Marathon, Monroe County, Florida, an Addition to the Jail Sub-Station at Plantation Key, Monroe County, Florida, and Additions to the Monroe County Jail, Key West, Monroe County, Florida, there shall be and is. hereby levied on all taxable property in Monroe County, Florida, not exempted from such tax by law, a building tax which in addition to the previously levied building tax shall not exceed five (5) mills on the dollar, for the year 1960 and for a period not to exceed fifteen (I5) years a building tax which in addition to the previously levied building tax is not to exceed five (5) mills on the dollar, such tax and the proceeds thereof shall be included in the annual budget for said County in each of said years and such tax shall be extended and collected in each such year at the same time and in the same manner as are other taxes levied for County purposes and when collected shall be paid into a special fund and be used exclusively for the purpose for which the tax is herein levied. All officers of Monroe County charged with the performance of duties in connection with the levy, assessment and collection of county taxes are hereby authorized and directed to do all things necessary to assure the annual extension, prompt collec- tion and proper applicationof the tax herein levied. (3) That this resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. Dated January 15th, A. D. 1960.
