Resolution 035-1960 ly V RESOLUTION NO. 35 -1960 WHEREAS, the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund of the State of Florida by letter dated April 14, 1960, requested. the Board of County Com- missioners of Monroe County, Florida, to consider the proposal "that studies be made by recognized marine laboratories and their concurred recommenda- tions be used before any bay bottom sales, dredging permits and causeway construction be made" and that as a Board give the Trustees an expression of its reaction by Resolution or otherwise, and WHEREAS, said Board of County Commissioners has studied the above referred-to letter and considered the public interests in said matter and the fact that at least 400, 000 acres of Monroe County has been given to the Ever- glades National Park, the Great White Heron Refuge and the National Key Deer Refuge, and WHEREAS, said Board feels that any further mangrove islands, areas and submerged lands should be used to the best development of Monroe County, Florida, considering its future and welfare, and WHEREAS, the said Board also realizes the need for conservation of sports fishing and wildlife in said County, and WHEREAS, said Board feels that the determination of the sale of bay bottom lands, dredging permits and causeway construction should be a matter to be determined by local authorities, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, as follows: 1. That any and all sales of bay bottom lands within the geographical jurisdiction of the County of Monroe, State of Florida, be approved by said Board. of County Commissioners prior to the Trustees of the Internal Improve- ment Fund of the State of Florida confirming any of said sales. Z. That in the event said Board of County Commissioners feels that any of said bay bottom sales, dredging permits and causeway construction may be to the detriment of the public welfare in Monroe County, that said Board will require studies be made by recognized marine laboratories and upon submission of reports by said laboratories, said Board will then make recommendations to said Trustees concerning said sales, dredging permits and causeway construction. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY SAID BOARD that certified copies of this. Resolution be forwarded to the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund of the State of Florida with the request that no sales of bay bottom lands or any other action concerning said lands be taken by said Trustees until the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, furnishes said Trustees its written approval in the form of a Resolution passed by said Board of County Commissioners.
