ITEM BACKGROUND: Monroe County is eligible to receive a one-time $50,000 wellness contribution from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida for wellness initiatives once a contract is executed between the County and Blue Cross to manage its health insurance program. The County will use a portion of this contribution to promote wellness by encouraging participants in the health plan to participate in events that improve health and wellness, increases productivity and decreases health care costs. Requests for reimbursement of registration fees shall be handled on a "first come first served" basis up to a maximum cumulative expenditure of $10,000. TOTAL COST: $10,000 INDIRECT COST: BUDGETED: Yes No X COST TO COUNTY: None SOURCE OF FUNDS: vendor contribution REVENUE PRODUCING: Yes — No X AM UNT PER MONTH Year _ APPROVED BY: County Atty OMB/Pur asing Risk Managemen DOCUMENTATION: DISPOSITION: Revised 2/27/01 Included X To Follow Not Required AGENDA ITEM # RESOLUTION NO. 2011 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING REIMBURSEMENT OF REGISTRATION FEES FOR ALL INDIVIDUALS COVERED UNDER THE COUNTY'S HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN FOR PARTICIPATION AND COMPLETION OF COMMUNITY ORGANIZED EVENTS THAT PROMOTE ACTIVITY WHICH SHALL INCLUDE TRIATHLONS, RUN/WALKATHONS, AND BIKEATHONS. WHEREAS, Monroe County is eligible to receive a one-time $50,000 wellness contribution from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida for wellness initiatives; and WHEREAS, Monroe County wishes to use a portion of this wellness contribution to promote wellness by encouraging its health plan participants to participate in events that improve health and wellness for covered individuals, increase productivity and decrease health care costs; and WHEREAS, Monroe County believes that health plan participants will participate in these events in greater numbers if the County agrees to reimburse specific costs for participating in such events; and WHEREAS, individuals are encouraged to participate in foot, bicycle, and swimming races that take place in the Florida Keys, including but not limited to triathlons, run/walkathons, and bikeathon events; and WHEREAS, participation in such events is solely optional; and WHEREAS, the effective date of this initiative is October 1, 2011. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA That all individuals covered under the County's health insurance plan are eligible to be reimbursed their registration fees in an amount not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100.00) upon presentation of proof that the individual has registered for and has completed community organized foot, bicycle, and swimming races that take place in the Florida Keys, including but not limited to triathlons, run/walkathons, and bikeathons. Said requests for reimbursement shall be handled on a "first come first served" basis, up to a maximum cumulative expenditure of $10,000.
