BOX 1409 KEY WEST, FL 33041-1409 Sheriff Robert Peryam Monroe County Sheriffs Office 5525 College Road Key West, FL 33040 Dear Sheriff Peryam: 525 Angela Street (305) 809-3840 FAX 809-3886 crates@keywestcity. com In 2010 I commissioned a committee of community representatives to recommend what action is necessary to decrease the number of homeless people on the streets of Key West. Chief Tommy Taylor has played a key role in this study. The committee has recommended that a Mobile Outreach Program, serving people at various locations throughout the city, can reduce the number of people who are homeless on the streets of Key West. The Klaus Murphy Foundation, the Guidance Care Center, and the City of Key West has committed to budgeting funds for this pilot project. I hope we can count on the Sheriff's Office to contribute $10,000. The funds will be used to fund supplies and an assistant, as described in the accompanying proposal. Please make the check out to the Southernmost Homeless Assistance League (SHAL). SHAL will coordinate the project, managing the funding, coordinating services and monitoring impact. Thank you for your support. Sincerely, "' - { 6- Mayor Craig Cates Key to the Caribbean - Average yearly temperature 77 ° F. The Conchettes, a 14 member strong drill team, has been a tra the first choreographer of the Kilgore Rangerettes, Mr. Denard Haden. The much pride, and with hopes of increasing our numbers one kick at a time. Even though we don't have huge numbers, we do have BIG expectations fn moral conduct and behavior. They are taught to show respect for their community by their choices and actions. The young ladies must maintain a 2.5 GPA and commit to being drug/alcohol/tobacco free and have no disciplinary issues to be a member of the group. The Conchettes' year begins the first week in August before the school year begins with Haden Week. Haden Week was established 56 years ago, when Mr. Haden, himself, would come down to teach the girls dance routines that would be performed at the Conchs' Football games halftime show. Years following, his niece Mrs. Donna came down to teach the dances. Now, the Conchettes work closely with MA Dance. The group is involved in many community events throughout the year, as we have much community support, and giving back is essential to who we are and what we stand for. We participate in the Veteran's Day Parade, the Holiday Parade, the Junior Football league "little girls" dance team, Children's Day, and have performed at the assisted living facility in years past. If you have not had a chance to see the young ladies perform, you should really come to a Conchs Football game sometime. Their performances will amaze you; their show is complete with challenging and synchronized high kicks and line routines, along with jazz routines, big smiles and of course, red lipstick. If you have not had an opportunity to speak to the young ladies, please I encourage you, as each has pride, a strong work ethic, dedication, and has proven that teamwork makes the dream work. It will make you even more proud of being such an integral part of the Key West community. Last year we had the privilege of performing at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas, which was a phenomenal experience for the young ladies and also an accomplishment for our city and school. This school year, we were invited to perform in Orlando, Florida at the 2012 Capital One Bowl, which will take place in January, 2012. This is also a privilege. It is through our generous community that The Conchettes have been able to take part in such performances. In years past, we have asked for sponsorships from local businesses; however with the state of the economy, it is becoming more difficult, as everyone is feeling the effects of our economy, The young ladies are required to fundraise to help with the expenses of their uniforms, accessories and travel expenses for special events and many group members hold a job in an effort to help defray costs. We are asking today, if you would become a sponsor of the Key West High School Conchettes and make our trip possible. We would be most grateful to any contribution you could make. We will make you and the community proud. Key West High School has appreciated all of your generous support and contributions over the years and we hope you get the opportunity to come watch us perform. Respectfully, t144k ed?VO Kristi K. Castaldo KWHS Conchette Director Key West High School Conchettes Keeping The Tradition Alive One Kick At A Time To: Fine and Forfeiture Committee From: Det.Sgt. Linda Mixon Reference: Request for funds Date:09/23/2011 Every year the Sheriff's Office, county wide, sponsors Toyz for Keyz Kidz. This year we desperately need the funds. We purchase toys for the entire county, and distribute all before Christmas. We help many family's in this county, who are less fortunate and would normally, not get to have a "Christmas". The Sheriffs Office partners with the community and the Salvation Army as a community policing effort to gain the trust and respect by many families throughout the keys. We have been able to foster long lasting relationships over the last 15 years, by doing this project as it has led to crime prevention in the community which leads to safer neighborhoods. The family's who live in low income neighborhoods throughout the keys take a leap of faith and meet with us, provide information on their children and then come to our party's and receive help for their kids. The partnership this develops is not always popular in the eyes of some that may be or will be committing crimes; therefore their unlawful activity is postponed. We focus on the children and do not judge the parents actions. During this time, where many of the family's are the Sheriffs Clients for assistance, we have found that there is a reduction in crime and a stronger respect for the Sheriffs Office. This partnership again leads to safer neighborhoods and happier children who benefit from these relationships with Law Enforcement, instilling trust and respect in them for Officers. Many times the kids tell us that they too would like to be Officers when they are older, so they can help children in need. The sub -station in Plantation Key, Marathon and Stock Island work to collect lists of family's who are in need and then we shop for same, followed by a distribution party in each area. Walmart in Florida City usually donates a large amount of money to purchase toys, but in August I put the grant request and they were already out of funds. We really need your help even more this year and are requesting $6000.00 for the county. This would give each area $2000.00 to spend on their families. Thank You for your time. c111Y C-) V 4 I. y rat W. 110 t N Ce rn 7 r 1b lk
