2020 Petitioner Notice Kevin MAO, CPA Clerk of,the Circuit Court& Comptroller—MOnroe County„ Florida Dear Petitioner, The Clerk's Office is responsible for processing your VAB petition. Our office cannot assist you with filling out the petition nor provide any advice on what you submit to the Property Appraiser in support of your petition. Completed petitions may be submitted in person at any location of the Clerk of Court Office; by standard mail to the Monroe County Clerk of Court, VAB, P.O. Box 1980, Key West, FL. 33041-1980 or by overnight delivery to the Monroe County Clerk of Court, VAB, 500 Whitehead Street, Suite 101, Key West, FL. 33040. There is a $15.00 filing fee, per parcel, which must accompany your petition unless you are appealing disapproval of an Ad-Valorem Tax Exemption, including the denial of homestead exemption, by the Property Appraiser. Make checks payable to the Monroe County Clerk of Court. Once your petition is received it will be processed; copies will be forwarded back to you and to the Property Appraiser's Office for consideration. Note: it is very important that you provide your proper mailing address to avoid any processing delays. The Clerk's Office is responsible for scheduling the Organizational and Final Meeting of the Value Adjustment Board, and Special Magistrate Hearings. After the Organizational Meeting is held sometime in late September/early October, you will be notified when your hearing date is scheduled. In the meantime, you may correspond with the Property Appraiser's Office directly & find that you no longer wish to proceed. (Please do not fax or e-mail any additional paperwork with regard to your petition as this would overload both systems). The three types of Special Magistrate hearings are Exemption/Classification, Tangible Personal Property and Valuation. Each type of hearing has rules and procedures required by law. You are encouraged to learn about them before your scheduled hearing. Particularly in Valuation Hearings regarding the proposed assessed value of your property, you must follow the Rules of Procedure and Evidence in order to have your petition fully considered by the Special Magistrate.
