ITEM BACKGROUND: Recognition is given to the family of the late Jim Rubino for his extensive dedication and vast public service to the people of the Upper Keys and Monroe County, Florida. He was Editor of The Reporter for nineteen years, and he supported many, many community organizations. Harvey RESOLUTION NO. -2000 A RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF THE LATE JIM RUBINO WHEREAS, Jim Rubino, a well respected resident of Tavernier for twenty-three years, passed away after a lengthy illness at the age of 46; and WHEREAS, Jim was Editor of The Reporter newspaper for nineteen years, and was a highly regarded member of the Florida Keys community, known for his expert reporting of the facts involving Monroe County; and WHEREAS, Jim was the founder of the Upper Keys Independent newspaper, and was involved in the formation of the Key Largo Economic Development Committee; and WHEREAS, Jim helped found the Upper Keys Jaycees chapter and was elected its President, and also served terms as President of the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce, the Upper Keys Rotary, and the Fraternal Order of Police; and WHEREAS, Jim helped develop the Plantation Key School Advisory Council and served as a member; he was also a former member of the Elks Lodge, and served on the board of directors for Plantation Villa; and and WHEREAS, Jim was named among the "Outstanding Young Men of America" in 1986; WHEREAS, Jim was a Monroe County Sheriff's Office Reserve Deputy, where he served as a captain, earning the Officer of the Quarter Award for his work with the reserves in 1998; and WHEREAS, Jim leaves his beloved mother, Marilyn Campil; his daughter Jennifer; grandson James, other loving family members, and many, many friends to cherish his memory; now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its regret and mourning for the passing of the late Jim Rubino, and in recognition of his extensive dedication and vast public service to the people of the Upper Keys and Monroe County, Florida. Section 2. The Board hereby requests the Clerk to forward copies of this Resolution to his beloved family to express the Board's sorrow. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the 15th day of March, 2000.
