AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval of a Resolution in recognition of
the late Dr. Bob Elliott.
ITEM BACKGROUND: Recognition is given to the family of the late Dr.
Bob Elliott. He was an Admiral in the Navy who moved to Key West
after he retired. He served on the Key West International Airport
Ad-Hoc Committee on Airport Noise, and volunteered for numerous
naval activities.

A RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION
OF THE LATE ROBERT "BOB" WAITE ELLIOTT, JR.
WHEREAS, Retired Rear Admiral Robert "Bob" Waite Elliott Jr. passed away at the age
of 78; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Elliott was Chief of the Naval Dental Corps retiring after 27 years and
was awarded the Legion of Merit by President Jimmy Carter; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Elliott then joined the Georgetown University School of Dentistry as
Associate Professor, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the International College of Dentists,
Secretary of the District of Columbia Dental Society and was past President of the American
College of Dentists and the Academy of Dentistry International; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Elliott chaired the Lower Keys Unit of the American Red Cross, and was
Vice-President of Key West By the Sea Condominium Association; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Elliott was Vice-President of the local chapter of the Retired Officers
Association and received the Order of the Bugle for exceptional service to that association; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Elliott was a member of many civic organizations, including the Key
West Rotary Club of Key West and the Hospitaller Order of the Knights of Saint John of
Jerusalem.
WHEREAS, Dr. Elliott was a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Key
West and St. Raphael's Church in Potomac, Md; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Elliott leaves his beloved wife, Carolyn Elliott; his son and daughter-in-
law, Robert W. Elliott III and Trish Elliott; his daughter and son-in-law Janis Elliott Son ley and
Tim Sonley; five grandchildren, McKay Elliott, Ben Sonley, Jack Sonley, Joanna Son ley and
Robert Waite Elliott IV, and many friends to cherish his memory; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its regret and
mourning for the passing of the late Dr. Bob Elliott, and in recognition of his extensive dedication
and vast public service to the people of Key West.
Section 2. The Board hereby requests the Clerk to forward copies of this Resolution
to his beloved family to express the Board's sorrow.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County,
Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the 15th day of March, 2000.
