I PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: STAFF RECOMMENDATION: TOTAL COST: BUDGETED: Yes No COST CENTER # COST TO COUNTY: REVENUE PRODUCING: Yes No AMOUNT PER MONTH YEAR APPROVED BY: County Arty _ OMBlPurchasing_ Risk Management _ DIVISION DIRECTOR APPROVAL: ~ /A i.l~ Mayor Shirley reeman DOCUMENTATION: Included: To Follow:_Not Required: DISPOSITION: Agenda Item #: '.&3 , , JMaport ~ ~rorlamatton WHEREAS, the Monroe County Commissioners support the health and social service agencies throughout the County; and WHEREAS, Monroe County Official Census Day provides an opportunity for us all to mail in our census forms so that Monroe County citizens will receive their fair share of Federal Funding; and WHEREAS, for Monroe County to receive its full share of federal funds all citizens must be counted; and WHEREAS, every man, woman, and child not counted in the Census equates to approximately $1,500 lost to our community in Federal Funds; and WHEREAS, 46% of Monroe County citizens completed and returned their Census forms in 1990 compared to the national average of 65%; and WHEREAS, Monroe County is determined to exceed the national average of completed and returned Census forms for Census 2000; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is dedicated to the health and well being of all citizens and residents of Monroe County, especially those to whom the future belongs; NOW, THEREFORE, I, SHIRLEY FREEMAN, Mayor of Monroe County, do hereby proclaim that Aprill, 2000 shall be known as: MONROE COUNTY OFFICIAL CENSUS DAY in the Southernmost County of the Continental United States, and urge all citizens and residents to stand up and be counted by completing and returning their Census forms.
