Dear Mr. Gregory:
This letter is to confirm that your no-cost extension has been approved (as detailed in
your letter of request dated 2/14/00). In addition, I approve the spending of $1000.00 to
remove derelict traps because these ghost traps have the potential of confounding the
results of the study.

Dear Ms Cramer,
In reference to the Sentinel Lobster Project, Order Number 40WCNC901673, the contract period was
5/1/99 through 4/30/00. I respectfully request your consideration for the following two requests: 1) To give me
an extension on this year's budget through June 30, 2000. And, 2) to allow me to use some of these funds to
remove derelict lobster traps from the sample sites during the month of April. I have excess funds from this
year's work that I would like to expend on removing trap debris from the study site and to sample research
traps until we get a new contract in place. Enclosed is a budget breakdown for expending the $5,832.23
remaining in this year's budget. Also enclosed is a copy of the current budget showing expenditures to date
and the remaining balance.
Although, I will be submitting the paperwork for the Year 3 Sentinel Proposal and research sampling
permits next week, because this will be a late submission, I am trying to anticipate a possible delay in funding
for Year 3 It is important for us to sample during June to be consistent with previous years. The enclosed
proposed budget is highly optimistic regarding the time needed to complete the June sampling. Typically, it has
taken at least 6 days of sampling to complete because of malfunctioning pop-ups and weather. Therefore, I
hope we can get Year 3 funding in place before June 1.
I need a response to this request before the end of February so I can get it to the Monroe County BOCC
for their approval at the March meeting. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need additional information
on any aspect of this request. Thank you for your support and consideration
Sincerely, f
