SUBJECT: Renewal of County Administrator's Contract
Dear Mr KOlhage:
Please read the following at the BOCC meeting when the subject of renewing the County
Administrator's contract comes up for discussion:
TO THE MONROE COUNTY BOCC:
I am wholeheartedly 1I11ainst renewing Mr. Roberts' contract for two reasons:
First, he has been here for six years and has not exhibited leadership. He did not advocate a
full cost accounting budget, which would have helped him do his job better and would have
brought Monroe County into the Twentieth Century. His "solutions" to directions from the
County Commissioners appear to take the view that the lengthier. the more complicated, and
the more draconian (and the more unenforceable) the Ysolution" the better, He has shown no
foresight, insight, or ability to plan for the incorporation movement in Monroe County.
Second, the sitting County Commission should not preempt what should be the prerogative of
the Commission to be elected in November. If Mr. Roberts somehow shows vision and true
executive ability during the next year, then, maybe.
In short, Mr. Roberts has been an uninspiring employee of Monroe County who, unfortunately,
has set the tone for the rest of the County bureaucracy. By approving anv extension of Mr.
Roberts' contract at the present time, you are voting for four more years of the same and your
successors - and you - will have to live with it.
Sincerely,
~d~~
