ITEM BACKGROUND:
The Bullet Proof Vest Partnership Grant Program offers Law Enforcement up to 50%
reimbursement from the Federal Government, for the qualified purchase of Vests for

PREVIOUS REVELANT DOCC ACTION:
The BOCC granted permission to the Sheriff to act as Jurstiction since we were the
only county law enforcement agency applying for the grant in 1999. The grant was
successful and 98 vests that had expired were replaced at 50% of the cost to the county.

NIJ-approved vests purchased on or after March 1,1999 are eligible fo

Applications will be accepted between February 14 and May 26,2000. Afte
deadline, funding levels will be determined based upon submitted applicat
and jurisdictions will be notified. This year partial and supplemental fundi
approvals will not occur - all available program resources will be obligatf
during the application approval period after May 26, 2000.
On June 16, 1998, the Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) Grant Act of 1998 was siS;
(Public Law 105-181). The purpose of the Act is to save the lives of law enforcemen'
helping States and units of local government and tribal governments equip their law
officers with armor vests.
