STAFF RECOMMENDATION: TOTAL COST: BUDGETED: Yes No COST CENTER # COST TO COUNTY: REVENUE PRODUCING: Yes No AMOUNT PER MONTH YEAR APPROVED BY: County Atty _ OMB/Purchasing_ Risk Management_ DIVISION DIRECTOR APPROVAL: Q C. ~ Q ~=--- ~ Shirley r~ DOCUMENTATION: Included: X To Follow:_Not Required: Agenda Item #: ,~w:t DISPOSITION: .fIapor'l1 . llrorlamation WHEREAS, on May 5th and 6th, 2000, the American Cancer Society will hold the Relay for Life in the County of Monroe, the City of Key West, as a money-raising team effort to help prevent cancer and to support those battling this life-threatening disease; and WHEREAS, dollars from the Relay for Life provide patients with transportation, durable medical equipment, and much more; and WHEREAS, participants form teams; taking turns on the track in shifts of thirty minutes to two hours; and WHEREAS, the Relay for Life opens as cancer survivors walk or run the first lap, which is an emotional time and sets the stage for the importance of this event; and WHEREAS, the Relay for Life, a luminary service is held to honor cancer survivors and to remember those who have lost the battle against cancer, and the luminaries are left burning throughout the night to remind participants of the importance of this contribution. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the County Commission of the County of Monroe hereby declares and proclaims May 5th and May 6th, 2000, as: RELAY FOR LIFE DAYS for the Lower Keys Unit 'and hereby urge all citizens of Monroe County to participate in this worthwhile event.
