He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was extremely proud of his two sons who performed public service. Harvey RESOLUTION NO. -2000 A RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF THE LATE GERALD "CUCHI" HERNANDEZ SR. WHEREAS, Gerald "Cuchi" Hernandez Sr., passed away at the age of 89 on April 23, 2000, surrounded by his devoted children; and WHEREAS, Gerald was born in Key West on November 20, 1910, and was a lifelong resident of Key West; and WHEREAS, Gerald was the oldest son of nine children, and was forced to drop out of school to help support the family. He was a staunch advocate of education and stressed to his children that education was the key to a better life. He was extremely proud of his two sons who performed public service; and WHEREAS, Gerald was a skilled carpenter by trade and worked on many of the buildings and homes in Key West. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War 1/; and WHEREAS, Gerald was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65% years, Dora Velasco Hernandez, and his sons, former City Commissioner John Hernandez, and Robert Anthony Hernandez; and WHEREAS, Gerald leaves his son, former County Commissioner Jerry Hernandez, and daughter, Olivia Rowe; his daughter-in-law, Dolores Hernandez, and son-in-law Don Rowe; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his brothers and sisters-in-law; his sisters and brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and many friends to cherish his memory; and WHEREAS, Gerald was a wonderful son to his parents, a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, caring nephew, uncle, neighbor and frienc:t. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched, now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONRO E COUNTY, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its regret arid mourning for the passing of the late Gerald Hernandez Sr. Section 2. Mayor Emeritus Harvey forwards copies of this Resolution to his beloved family expressing the Board's sorrow. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe Couniy, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the day of May, 2000.
