AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval to award Monroe County Fire Academy Scholarships to three Key
West High School students, Osbaldo Hernandez, Jro, Rett}' Acevedo, and Michael L. Whyms.
ITEM BACKGROUND: Key West Fire Department sponsors the Rid'<U'd H. and Nina Jo Wardlow Memorial
Scholarship program. The program otlers a chance for the children of Monroe County to receive firefighter
certification and thus open an opponunity tor them as a career firefighter. This appears tu be such an excellent
program that Monroe County Fire Rescue offered three positions in the M(lIlroe County Fire Academy if the
scholarship waS otlered to Coral Shores High School and Marathon High School in addilionto Key West High
School. This was done, and there were a total of three applicants from .\lllhree schools. At this lime, Monroe
Counly Fire Rescue wouJd like to award aU three upplicants with Monroe County Fire Academy Scholarships,
