DISPOSITION:
EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH
MARCH 2000
KIMBERL Y WELLS
Paramedic Firefighter Wells has been employed with Monroe County for a total of almost nine
years. Her nomination was initiated by a co-worker and supported by her supervisors.
Professionalism, accomplishments, dedication and compassion that she demonstrates to her
patients, community, and peers were commented upon.
Ms. Wells is energetic and enthusiastic and truly excels at being an emergency responder. She is
constantly challenging herself, and thereby others, to excel in patient care and firefighting duties.
PM/FF Wells is a Preceptor, Company Officer, and "step up" Supervisor. As a Preceptor, she
assumes the duties of supervising and training new hires. Time is spent ensuring the new hire is
comfortable with the medical treatment protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, and Fire
Operations. She continues to be a point of contact for questions and information after orientation.
As Company Officer, she is responsible for the station and personnel assigned to the area. She is
well received and knowledgeable in both the career and volunteer emergency operations
throughout Monroe County.
She spends countless hours teaching CPR to community groups and serves as an adjunct
instructor for the EMT Program with Florida Keys Community College. She is a volunteer with
Key Largo Volunteer Ambulance and serves on their Board of Directors. She holds the historical
accomplishment of being Monroe County's first female career firefighter and recently competed
and was selected for the South Florida 2001 Female Firefighter calendar of which all proceeds go
to the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Bum Center.
