AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval of a Resolution in recognition of
the late Louis Signorelli.
ITEM BACKGROUND: Recognition is given to the family of the late
Louis Signorelli. He was a member of the Key West Civil Service
Board and participated in writing the City Charter in 1984. He
served as a legislative aide to State Rep. Will Roberts, 1969-70,
to State Sen. Dick Rennick, 1980-82, and State Rep. Ken Sorenson,
1998-99.

RESOLUTION NO. -2000
A RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION
OF THE LATE lOUIS SIGNORELLI
WHEREAS, Louis Signorelli passed away on September 8, 2000 at the age
of 70; and
WHEREAS, Louis Signorelli came to Key West as an infant, attended local
schools, and served in the Merchant Marines where he perfected his skills as a
gourmet cook, and returned to own a barber-shop on Duval Street with his father,
Virgil; and
WHEREAS, Louis Signorelli owned and managed the Tradewinds (old
Raul's) Restaurant, was an insurance agent for Porter Allen Insurance and
founded Louie's Backyard Restaurant; and
WHEREAS, Louis Signorelli was active in politics, starting with .the
. Jaycees, which led to a long history of participation in many politicalcampaigps,
through the years. His real love was participating in political campaigns .as a,
speech writer, a letter-to-the-editor writer .anda composer of advertising copy for
candidates; and
WHEREAS, Louis Signorelli was a member of the Civil Service Board for
the City of Key West and participated in writing the City Charter in 1984. He
served as a legislative aide to State Rep. William Roberts, 1969-70, to State Sen.
Dick Rennick, 1980-82, and State Rep. Ken Sorenson, 1998-99; and
WHEREAS, Charlie Ramos, editor of the Key West Morning Star and former
State Representative, for whom Signorelli wrote campaign material stated, "He
had a brillant mind and a sardonic humor - he was a master of ridicule."
WHEREAS, he owned and operated a doughnut shop and an ice cream
parlor in Highlands, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mary
Sanchez Signorelli and Virgil Signorelli, and brothers, Tony and Ralph Signorelli;
and
WHEREAS, Louis Signorelli leaves his beloved wife, Frances Brooks
Signorelli; his sister, Theresa Signorelli; children, Bianca Signorelli Kauffman,
Joseph Signorelli and Virgil Signorelli; grandchildren, Shay and Tasha Kauffman;
stepchildren, Buddy Brooks, Annabel Brooks, and adopted brothers, David
Freeman, Sonny McCoy and Rep. Ken Sorenson, and many, many friends to
cherish his memory; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its
regret and mourning for the passing of the late Louis Signorelli and in
recognition of his dedication and vast public service to the community.
Section 2. Mayor Emeritus Harvey forwards a copy of this Resolution to
his beloved wife, Frances Brooks Signorelli, and family to express the Board's
sorrow.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe
County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the day of
October, 2000.
