The staff of the Key West Public Library was pleased to nominate Lori Kelly as
Employee of the Month for August 2000. What distinguishes Lori as an exemplary
employee is her professionalism, enthusiasm and teamwork. From the moment she set
foot in the Library, she provided an incredibly positive effect on the entire department.
She is currently serving double duty as Headquarters Librarian and Senior Reference
Librarian, both very demanding positions, and is doing an extraordinary job in both
capacities.
Many patrons have commented that since Lori came onboard they enjoy spending
time at the Library and always look forward to their next visit. Lori makes every patron
feel that they are important and that she will help them in any way she can. Once, she
even baby-sat a patron's pet bird on the front steps of the Library while the patron was
inside choosing some books.
This attitude carries over to her role as supervisor. She lets every employee know
how important their work is, how much she appreciates them and their contribution to the
workplace. She is always available to her staff and colleagues when they need help, have
problems or just want to vent and you can count on her to listen. She has exceptionable
communication skills and never shies away from even the most difficult situation. She
listens, gathers information from all sources, assesses the problem and takes action, while
remaining fair in her dealing with all parties involved.
Lori always maintains a cheerful disposition no matter what challenge is thrown her
way. She has worked very hard and has succeeded in building a most positive esprit de
corps, providing encouragement, praise and even rewards at every opportunity. The
result of this teamwork is evident throughout the library and has made for a more
pleasant work environment.
She adds sunshine to the Library with her kind words and her unwavering enthusiasm,
consummate professionalism and accomplished teamwork are truly an inspiration to us
all.
