DISPOSITION:
In January 1996, when Mary Alexander was named Employee of the Month,
Mary's supervisors wrote of her extraordinary service, perseverance and upbeat
attitude. They also commented that she was "...a model county employee" who,
"Rarely missing a day of work, has amassed over 880 sick leave hours. She is a
dedicated employee who strives to do her best in every aspect of her job." It
should also be mentioned that she has the 2nd longest tenure with Monroe
County than any other current employee.
Since then, the Library has become automated and although Mary would, at first,
mildly protest "Aw shucks, I'll never learn that new computer stuff', she not only
has learned it, but she is a whiz at it; she has to be nearly pried away from her
PC each day.
Mary has seen so many changes in the Library over the past 30 years, and as
always, has met each new challenge head-on until she mastered it. She has
worked with six library directors in her tenure and will often have library staff in
stitches with some of the stories she tells about them. and the other very colorful
library characters with whom she has worked.
Mary is an institution at the library and is loved and respected by all. She has a
warm smile and a kind word for everyone which makes it a pleasure to work with
her. We all hope she will be working with us for many years to come.
