ITEM BACKGROUND:
Louis B. Schwartz was member and/or officer of the Older Americans Advisory Board, the Alliance for
Aging, AARP, the Monroe County Human Service Advisory Board. the People with Disabilities and the
Monroe County Rural Health Network, just to name a few of his many services to the community.

RESOLUTION NO. -2001
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
OF MONROE COUNTY IN RECOGNITION OF THE LATE
LOUIS BENJAMIN SCHWARTZ
WHEREAS, Louis B. Schwartz, passed away at the age of88 on January 19,2001; and
WHEREAS, Louis was a native of New York City and resident of Key Colony Beach, and pursued pre-
medicine studies at the University of Wisconsin and Long Island University; and
WHEREAS, Louis ran his own fur business for more than 20 years, and after retirement, he and his
wife Beverly moved to Key Colony Beach where he served as an elderly activist for more than twenty-five
years; and
WHEREAS, Louis was a member and/or officer of the Older Americans Advisory Board, the Alliance
for Aging, AARP, the State Department of Children and Families' Health and Human Services Board, the
Monroe County Human Services Advisory Board, the Florida Council for People with Disabilities, the Monroe
County Transportation Disadvantaged Board, the Fishermen's Hospital Board, the Monroe County Rural Health
Network, and a consultant to Key Colony Beach city government; and
WHEREAS, Louis was an accomplished yachtsman and proud of the service he contributed to the U.S.
Coast Guard Auxiliary during the time he lived in the Keys; and
WHEREAS, Louis leaves his beloved wife, Beverly Schwartz; daughter and son-in-law, Adrienne and
Lawrence Riley; two grandchildren, Andrew Carleton Riley and David Louis Riley, and many faithful friends in
the Florida Keys.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MONROE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS:
Section 1: The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its regret and mourning for the
passing of the late Louis B. Schwartz.
Section 2: Commissioner Dixie M. Spehar forwards a copy of this Resolution to his beloved
family expressing the Board's sorrow.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a
meeting of said Board held on the day of February, A.D., 200 I.
