Item K15
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY
Meeting Date: March 21-22,2001
Division:
BOCC
Bulk Item: Yes No X Department: District Five
AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Direction from the BOCC as to maintaining the FEMA
pilot inspection program and to apply it to the homes that are less than four years old
only, or to eliminate the inspection program entirely.
ITEM BACKGROUND: The County Commission found in its Resolution #346-99 that
FEMA's new inspection procedure will certainly result in the elimination of hundreds of
residential units now existing below base flood elevation. It is questionable as to the wis-
dom to start a pilot inspection program prior to a FEMA meeting and based on the fact
that it exists only in Monroe County. If the rest of the USA and Florida can enforce their
flood plain regulations, then Monroe County can also without a pilot inspection program.
