DISPOSITION:
Revised 2/27/01
George Garrett has been with the County now for nearly 16 years starting as a
biologist with the Department of Environmental Resources. In the fall of 1986,
George became the Director of Environmental Resources and then in 1990 the
Director of Marine Resources. George holds this position today.
George is a bit like the Growth Management Division historian, a position held
jointly with another 15 year employee, Marie Diane Bair. George has helped the
County through the years of Comprehensive Plan revisions and challenges, through
the development of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary adoption, through
numerous water quality issues and through the development of the Monroe County
Wastewater Master Plan. His department works daily with improving boating and
navigation within the Florida Keys.
George feels that the challenges of working in the Keys have promoted his
personal and professional growth and hopes that his time and experience have been
of long term assistance to the County. He came here thinking that the
environmental regulatory community needed some experience and consistency.
He figured, "say five years." It's now been three times that - all enjoyable.
