'. d.... .\'....1.- Ii) ..i1....\_,..-.,;.,).....,_,'....l.t..1 r I\\."L Mayor Neugent RESOLUTION NO. -ZOO1 A RESOLUTION' OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONeRS OF MONRoe COUNTY, FLORIDA IN SUPPORT OF SOUTH FLORIDA AE6WNAL PLANNIN6 COUNCIL APPLVIN6 FOA AND ACCEPTIN6 DESI6NATION AS A U.S. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT WHEREAS, the South Florida Regional Plaming Council (SFRPC) is uniquely positioned and statutorily sanctioned (Chapter 186, FS) to address economic development challenges in the region; and ~~~ WHEREAS, the future prosperity and well-being of South Florida is dependent upon its capacity to build beneficial partnerships to create healthy and expanding economies and social environments throughout the region; and WHEREAS, the Council's role in working with 10CCll governments, elected officials, economic development organizations. universities, school systems, businesses, interest groups, and community representatives provide a foundation and framework for developing partnerships and collaborative networks throughout the region for the purpose of initiating and sustaining a strategic effort toward economic development; and WHEREAS, designation as a U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) Economic Development District (EDt)) would enable the Council to further its role as facilitator of regional economic d~velopl'nent strategies and collaborativ2 actions: now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that; " UU ;"jJ. ;V:J ..::1.:J l-t<l1fl i"lU.iH':UL LU;,Ji'iJ.-. i'-"lis." The SOCC proclaims its full support of the SFRPC applying for and accepting designation as a U.S. Economic Development Administration Economic Development District. Section 2. The 80CC supports the Council's use of the R~ional Plan for South Florida as the strategic plan component of the Council's Overall Economic Development Program (OEDP), and concurs with the findings of the OEDP including the selection of the redevelopment centers. Section 3. The 80CC endorses carrying out of the functions and responsibilities of an EDD as specified in Chapter 13. CFR, Part 303, Sec. 303.43, by the SFRPC once designated by the U.S. Economic Development Administration. Section 4. The 80CC intends to continue to participate as an active member of the SFRPC including its new role as an Economic Development District if designated. Section 5. The Clerk is directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the Executive Director of South f10rida Regional Planning Council. Therefore, we elect to have the district's latest CEDS meet the county's obligation for a report in lieu of a separate document.
