RE: Interim Hurricane Evacuation Traffic Management Plan
I have reviewed the revised plan faxed on May 5, 2001 and find it okay. There is one
typo on page eight. In the chart, there are 895 channel markers requiring 6.75 hrs. to
install.
With regard to the minor construction projects, I would like permission to proceed with
two easy ones. First, on C905 at US 1 in Key Largo, two lanes need to go north on C905.
There is only enough pavement for one lane. By adding shoulder pavement we will be
able to manage traffic safer and keep vehicles moving at a reasonable pace. We would
apply for FDOT permits and pay for the work from our gasoline tax revenue. Second, the
intersection of C905 and Card Sound Road can be made to function a little better by
adding shoulder pavement to the inside of the curve going northbound. Work would be
within the right-of-way and would not impact wetlands. We would coordinate with the
USFWS, ACOE and FDEP before starting work.
I believe that both projects listed above can be completed this year before August 15t if
allowed to proceed at this time. Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this
project.
