Agenda Item Wording: Approval to purchase property with Preservation 2000 funds - Wickfield Acres

Item Background: This purchase is proposed to protect property rights and natural resources.
Wickfield Acres subdivision on Big Pine Key is zoned Suburban Residential (SR) and designated
Residential Low (RL) on the Future Land Use map. Individual lots in this subdivision are too small to
meet the two-acre upland minimum necessary to build a single-family home. The property's upland
vegetation consists of transitional wetlands, beach berm, and mangroves. The property is located in
the National Key Deer Refuge and near the State Coupon BighUKey Deer CARL project. Any
residential development in this area would be subject to ROGO.
Funding for these purchases will come from the State's Preservation 2000 program, which will restrict
future use of the property to conservation and public recreation. The Land Authority's standard
purchase contract will be used. The agenda packet spreadsheet lists the legal descriptions, purchase
prices, and closing costs for these transactions.
Advisory Committee Action: On February 19, 1998 the Advisory Committee voted 3/0 to approve this
acquisition.
Previous Governing Board Action: The Board has approved the purchase of other property in
Wickfield Acres subdivision.
