Item C01 Revised 2/95 BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY Meeting Date: July 18 19.2001 Division: Public Safety Bulk Item: Yes X No Department: Fire Rescue AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval to award Monroe County Fire Academy Scholarships to two Key West High School students, Colton K. Butler III, and Edward Perez, Jr. ITEM BACKGROUND: Key West Fire Department sponsors the Richard B. and Nina Jo Wardlow Memorial Scholarship program. The program offers a chance for the children of Monroe County to receive firefighter certification and thus open an opportunity for them as a career firefighter. This appears to be such an excellent program that Monroe County Fire Rescue offered three positions in the Monroe County Fire Academy if the scholarship was offered to Coral Shores High School and Marathon High School in addition to Key West High School. This was done, and there were a total of two applicants from all three schools. At this time, Monroe County Fire Rescue would like to award these two applicants with Monroe County Fire Academy Scholarships.
