A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNTY COMMISSION SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF THE
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL OF MARATHON TO ENTER INTO A
CONSULTING CONTRACT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A STRATEGIC COMMUNITY
PLAN
WHEREAS, the Economic Development Council of Marathon (hereafter MEDCl
intends to enter into C1 contract with a Consultant for the purposes of developing a Strotegic
Community Plan; and
WHEREAS, Marathon has approximately 12,500 citizens, making it the second largest
unincorporoted area in Monroe County; and
WHEREAS, Ihe County recognizes that Marathon is a tourist destination wilh many
businesses which rely upon tourism for survival; and
WHEREAS, the Counly has previously participated wilh the Nature Conservancy and
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to gather important ~c<t9o~ fo,yts

WHEREAS, the County recognizes that tourism will play an imp~ p~ i~he

WHEREAS, the EDC of Marathon still needs to raise an additional fends to ~hi~ its
goal of creating a Strategic Community Plan, now therefore;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY,
FLORIDA:
~~~jjon 1, The MEDC and the Consultant's preparation of a Strotegic Community
Plan will be significantly impacted by and will significantly impact tourism in the Florida
Keys.
Section 2. That the Consultant's analyses of site inventory, opportunities and
constraints, economics (including market reconnaissance), and the Consultant's community
compatibility analysis, constitute permissible uses of Tourist Development tax revenues under
Section 125.0104 (9)(d) Florida Statutes.
Section 3.
That the above referenced analyses and the resulting Strategic
Community Plan will enhance and supplement County efforts regarding tourism research,
promotion and advertising.
Section 4. The County Commission endorses and supports the MEDC project to
develop a Strategic Community Plan for Marathon, and encourages submission to the TDC
of an appropriate application for partial funding of the Strategic Community Plan from
tourist tax revenue.
