AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Discussion and direction to staff regarding the need to issue a
Request for Proposal or a Request for Qualifications to hire an independent consulting firm to conduct
a Job Classification & Compensation Study.
ITEM BACKGROUND: The purpose of a study is to evaluate and determine if the County's job
classifications and pay structure is appropriate or in need of adjustment so that the County is able to
competitively recruit and retain a qualified workforce.
Steps involved: Develop RFP or RFQ to hire consultant; BOCC approve RFP or RFQ and
advertisement to hire consultant; Committee review and recommend firm to BOCC for approval.
rnzvivua 1cLELVANT BOCC ACTION: The last time the County conducted a study was in
1997 with the firm of Coopers & Lybrand. The BOCC had a discussion on this issue on April 18,
2012 and it was decided at that time not pursue a study.
