ITEM BACKGROUND: The revision to §2.03.A.5 is clerical. The revision to §2.03.A.6 enhances
customer service and consistency. They are based on similar policies at many Florida public libraries.
These revisions were approved by the Library Advisory Board at their March 2013 meeting.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
Various parts of the Library Policy have been reviewed, revised and approved since the 1990 BOCC
resolution instituting the official policies of the Monroe County Public Library.

NON-RESIDENTS: Individuals who do not possess appropriate Monroe County identification may pay a
$30.00 annual non-refundable fee for a library card which entitles them to borrowing privileges at all
Monroe County Public Library locations.
Proposed language:
NON-RESIDENTS: Individuals who cannot provide appropriate Monroe County identification may pay a
$30.00 annual, non-refundable fee for a library card which entitles them to full borrowing privileges at
all Monroe County Public Library locations. A valid, government -issued photo ID is required to register
for a non-resident card.
Explanation:
This revision states the requirement for a valid ID to obtain a membership card.

EXPIRATION OF LIBRARY CARDS: All library cards must be renewed annually, including Institutional
Patron cards, which require a new letter of request to be placed on file. There is no charge for card
renewal upon its expiration.
