A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, EXPRESSING THEIR SUPPORT OF A HISTORICAL PRESERVATION GRANT ON
BEHALF OF WESLEY HOUSE FOR THE LEY MEMORIAL CHURCH Of KEY WEST
WHERE,A,S, the Ley Memorial Church was erected in 1912 and is one of only five etched
concrete structures in Key West; and
WHEREAS. the building is situated on Truman Avenue, contiguous to the Historic Truman
School; and,
WHEREAS, the restoration of this building would greatly enhance the "gateway" to Key West's
Historic Old Town District; and
WHERE,A,S, the Ley Mernorial Church is a one of Key West's historic buildings which would
qualify for state historic preservation funding; and
WHEREAS, the Wesley House is purchasing the Ley Memorial Church and intends to renovate
the facility to provide space for training program for early childhood staff, family eligibility services, a
preschool program. resource and referral information services, and administrative offices; now,
therefore
BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA
hereby expresses its support of a Historical Preservation Grant on behalf of Wesley House for the Ley
