AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Discussion of Citizen Code Committee continuing involvement m process to make
comprehensive revisions to the County's Land Development Regulations.
ITEM BACKGROUND: The Citizen Code Committee, which was established by the Board of County Commissioners in
early 2000 for a term through October 2001, completed its review of the County's Land Development Regulations in
September. The Committee prepared a report with specific recommendations for revisions to the current Land
Development Regulations, which was presented to the BOCC at its October 17th meeting in Key West.
After hearing comments from individual Committee members, the BOCC unanimously voted to extend the Committee
through June 2002 and requested the Growth Management Division to consider the recommendations of the Committee in
preparing proposed draft regulations. The Committee was charged to provide input in the preparation of revised Land
Development Regulations now being prepared by the Growth Management Division staff The BOCC also directed the
County Growth Management Division staff to come back at its November meeting to recommend how the Committee can
be effectively involved in the revision process.
The Growth Management Division will provide administrative support to the Committee and recommends that following
role and involvement for the Committee in the comprehensive revision process for the LDRs and Chapter Six, Monroe
County Code (Building Code):
I. Review and submittal of comments to Growth Management Division staff and Planning Commission on
draft elements of the Land Development Regulations as they become available,
2. Review and submittal of comments to Growth Management Division staff on proposed revised Chapter
Six as it becomes available; and,
3. Provide recommendations to Growth Management Division staff and Planning Commission on any
revisions to the Land Development Regulations or Chapter Six.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: BOCC created Citizen Code Committee on March 22,2001 and authorized
its extension through June 2002 on October 17,200 I.
