LAND AUTHORITY GOVERNING BOARD AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY Meeting Date: November 21,2001 Bulk Item : Yes No X Department: Land Authority Agenda Item Wording: Approval to purchase property with Preservation 2000 funds - Palma Sola and Ocean Park Village subdivisions. Item Background: This item is proposed to implement the Tavernier Greenspace project and to protect property rights and natural resources. The Tavernier Greenspace project was proposed by the Tavernier Community Association to preserve natural areas and community character in the Tavernier area. The project calls for the purchase of the remaining vacant lots in Palma Sola subdivision and the adjoining vacant lots in Block 8 of Ocean Park Village subdivision. This predominately undeveloped area abuts the State Dove Creek CARL site and consists of tropical hardwood hammock and wetland vegetation. The area is zoned Improved Subdivision (IS) and is designated Residential Medium (RM) on the Future Land Use Map. All properties in this area would be difficult to develop under the County ROGO and wetland regulations. Funding for these purchases will come from the State's Preservation 2000 program, which will restrict future use of the properties to conservation and public recreation. The Land Authority's standard purchase contract will be used. The attached spreadsheet lists the legal description, purchase price, and estimated closing costs of each purchase offer. Advisory Committee Action: On October 29,2001 the Advisory Committee voted 4/0 to approve the purchases indicated in the attached spreadsheet. Previous Governing Board Action: On October 19, 2000 the Board approved adding the Tavernier Greenspace project to the Acquisition List.
