HIGGS BEACH CHILDREN'S MURAL PROJECT, PHASE III
ALL WALKS OF LIFE
January 16,2002
1)
1122 Margaret Street
Key West, Florida 33040
Dear Commissioners:
The Children's Mural Project, painting life and wildlife in the Keys on Monroe County
buildings, has been an ongoing community beautification project at Higgs Beach, making Higgs
Beach a unique and attractive destination for locals and tourists. Local artists, such as Rick
Worth and Carrie Dirsud, will be available to us for consultation on all aspects of the project such
as stenciling and painting materials.
OBJECTIVE: The continuation of the Children's Mural Project at Higgs Beach including
painting footprints on the Pier in all sizes, shapes and colors. We will be using stencils of the
footprints of babies, children, adults, birds, lizards, cats and dogs, hence the project name, "ALL
WALKS OF LIFE."
THE PROPOSAL: Three days of painting to:
1. Touch up existing mural scenes for Phrase I & II (see illustrations).
2. Outline the footprint stencils on the Pier and have the children paint them.
PHASE III STATUS: This project is a volunteer community effort. All paint, supplies,
labor and refreshments will be donated by local businesses and patrons as was true with the other
past projects. Local artists, such as Rick Worth & Carrie Disrud and any others we can gather,
will be there on those three (3) days to assist in the coordination and overseeing of the painting
efforts of the children and adults also donating their time, efforts and painting to the project. This
project is tentatively scheduled for April 19th, 20th and 21st .rending your approval. The 19th will
be spent predominately for setup and stenciling and the 20 and 21st for the major painting.
Following on the success of Phase I & II of the Children's Mural Project, we want to
continue this wonderful effort of the community to participate in the enhancement and
preservation of their natural environment.
Sincerely,
~ ~ ;,,/ L....:;;f- ~ _
